Summary

Find out all about this exciting research by watching this 10 minute summary.

What do people believe?

What do people know and believe about Jesus? What do they really think of us, his followers? Are we talking about Jesus enough? And when we are, are we drawing people closer towards him, or pushing them further away?

These are just some of the questions Hope, CV, Alpha, Kingsgate, Lois Palau, and the Evangelical Alliance commissioned Savanta to ask on our behalf. But this was not just for curiosity’s sake.

We are believing, hoping, and praying that Talking Jesus will be a major catalyst for effective and focused evangelism in the years to come.

The Talking Jesus research was first carried out in 2015 and when we first saw the results they were so astonishing that we had to redo the research to see if they were true. Did 43% of the population really believe in the resurrection? Were practising Christians really speaking about their faith to their friends and family on a regular basis? Was there a growing number of young adult Christians? The answer was yes, and you’ll be pleased to know that the answer is still yes as we did the research again in 2022.

Read the full report here including any places we could make comparisons to the research done in 2015 or watch the short 10-minute summary below.

Some of the things we found are:

  • 45% of the UK population were indicating that they believed in the resurrection
  •  searching on Google is the top way that non-Christians say they would find out about the Christian faith (26%)
  • 53% of those who are non-Christians know someone who is a practising Christian in the UK
  • Christians were described as friendly (62%), caring (50%), good-humoured (33%) and generous (32%) by non-Christians
  • reading the Bible was the second most important influence on people coming to faith 24%.
  • most practising Christians come to faith before the age of 18, but it’s never too late for someone to come to faith
The research told us so much more.

The research helped us to think of evangelism using the following steps: pray, say, give, invite and inhabit.

“This research helped me to understand what a positive opportunity there is in our country to share our faith with others.”

Rico Tice, evangelist at All Souls Church
